The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ibadan, Oyo state, Dr. Olufunmilayo Akinfenwa has stressed the need for the electorate to be oriented about electioneering activities.

Akinfenwa said this at an annual faculty lecture of the Lead City University, Ibadan where she spoke on the topic “Policing Elections: the 2019 Experience “.

The guest speaker who described the Police as an umpire during elections, however stated that it is not the responsibility of the Police to do educate voters but rather the duty of agencies like the National Orientation Agency, NOA.

She also commended the commitment of the electorate in ensuring that their votes were counted in the watchful eye of the
policemen during the just concluded elections.

Akinfenwa described the ability of the citizens to be aware of their contributions to elections as a facilitator of Police efficiency and effectiveness.

The ACP said that election to police is a
national assignment and must be carried out diligently with effectiveness and efficiency.

She further explained that it is the duty of the Police at all time to ensure the protection of lives and property
as well as preserving and enforcing law and order before, during and after the election.

The Police boss said she was impressed by
the actions of the police during the last elections as they were able to penetrate so much into their area of jurisdiction.
