As the International Women’s Day (IWD) is being celebrated today worldwide, the Vice President of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ),B Zone ,Mrs Morenike Tony-Esan has advised women to participate actively in politics as 2019 general election gathers momentum.
She stated this in a release issued today in Ibadan in commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day.
Tony-Esan who maintained that Nigerian Women have what it takes in governance noted that women should be in the forefront of rebuilding the nation.
She explained that women involvement in politics would allowed them to fight for their rights and those of the children.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Press for Freedom”, the Vice president said the time is right for women to go out and contest for political posts as such posts would not be offered to them on a platter of Gold.
The NAWOJ VP therefore appealed to women to support other women seeking for political posts as it is by so doing that the thirty- five percent affirmative action could be achieved

.

Also speaking, the NAWOJ chairperson in Ondo State, Mrs Shola Omotosho said women should endeavour to be the best wherever or which ever position they hold.
“They should not be intimidated. They should be bold and steadfast in whatever they belief in.
Above all they should have the fear of God and love one another.
” We should empower ourselves with knowledge, wisdom and understanding in order to be abreast with happenings all over the world.
“I use this occasion to wish our women the very best in all their endeavours”, she said.
